I shot these late one afternoon in December 1991, about 3 months after I first moved to the North Side. A year before, the rail crossing on Belmont Avenue was abandoned yet still intact. By the time I took residence in the neighborhood, the crossing was gone. These pictures follow my walk from Belmont and Lakewood south to the Lakeshore Athletic Club parking lot just north of Fullerton Avenue. Sadly, some of the negatives were damaged by either a light leak in the camera or an incomplete rewind after shooting. Enough survives to give an idea of what was still around then and what is now lost.
