It was a C&NW freight station according to Tom Burke .. his 1991 pics:

Poking around through there lately (it's a very fun bike path) this looks like it would have been a really interesting and varied freight rail corridor. Lots of ghostly bits here and there to be spotted. Also -- the "Skokie Valley" ROW in general, what a waste it is, north of Dempster. South of there, with a paved path now and my electric bike it's like a superhighway, but that's partly because it's almost deserted. It's a straight diagonal path to the Chicago CBD, you'd think a high/ish speed rail line, maybe with a super cool paint scheme, could easily thrive on relief from the 90/94 slog.. sigh
