CTR Tour
« on: August 01, 2013, 11:02:56 PM »
I made a tour of the Chicago Terminal Railroad today. A lot of construction on both sides of Lakewood south of Diversey.  Tracks are still there, but asphalt has been laid so only the top part of the tracks are showing, not that it would matter anymore. Homes are in various stages of completion on both sides of the street. Tracks in Lakeshore Athletic Club parking lot have been removed. Also, drove Kingsbury south of North Avenue. Felt odd driving with no tracks there anymore. Where the tracks once crossed Division have been removed. The unpaved area on Kingsbury north of Division still has tracks for that one block stretch. Tracks are now buried in places there. Tracks are in place on Kingsbury north of North Avenue. Didn’t see any cars at Finkl but it looks like it is still active with scrap at least. Tracked mounted cranes were there. Nothing on Deering tracks west of Finkl. Gate was closed at General Iron so couldn’t peak to see if any cars west towards river. Two empty bulkhead flats were to the south of Bay Lumber.  Interesting thing I saw, Chicago Water Taxi is now offering service from downtown to the north end of Goose Island. There dock is on north side of Wrigley just to the west of the Cherry Ave. bob-tail bridge.

Looking at some Google aerial photos I found a photo of a loaded hopper on the Lakewood Branch near Finkl. It appears fairly recent as the Kingsbury track removal south of North Avenue has been completed.
