Did the Sun-Times printing plant (the new one, not the one in their old building) have rail service?  If not, this could represent a net gain for local rail freight in the area.  Hooray!

Yes, the Sun-Times does have rail service to their new facility on the South Side.  A quick look at Google Earth shows six boxcars parked alongside the south wall.

It\'s a win for UP with increased boxcar loads of newsprint for the Tribune Freedom Center but a loss for BNSF which services the plant via a long spur.

Also yet another sad chapter in story of the Sun-Times and for its employees at the plant...

I\'ve always seen the CN switching the Times plant off Ashland, not BNSF.  Just an FYI...

Does this mean we should all be seeing more freights parked in the Trib. Yard?

Probably not whole trains but definitely more cars switched into the building...with most of the Grand Ave yard removed, the cars will probably be stored in North Ave.
