Mark:
I would guess at least 1985 since Kingsbury north of North Avenue was rebuilt by the City of Chicago that year. The picture of the crew member flagging North Avenue shows a train on that new section of street trackage.

Great find with these rare photos BTW. It looks like the photographer caught the crew taking a boxcar to Midwest Zinc.
You can see this section of Kingsbury at North Avenue being rebuilt in June of 1985 at this link:

Another clue as to the approximate date is that Buick Century next to the CTA bus stopped on North Avenue. It appears to be a mid-1980s model from the styling and body colored bumper trim.
Interesting to note the functioning crossing gate at North Avenue which would not be there much longer...it must have been one of the last ones still in operation along either the Lakewood or Kingsbury (C&E) lines.

After looking at the whole set of 100 shots I realized that this one was located closer to the front of the pack...
Nice crossing shot of the bobtail and the scrap loader just to the north.
the MILW train has neat specimens of MP and CN combo door boxcars. The following car is a hopper of ? Coal? Coke?
This area would make for a neat model railroad!
