Special movement for Chicago Terminal?
« on: May 29, 2009, 03:06:56 PM »
I noticed a drop-center flatcar at the North Avenue yard this morning with a piece of heavy electrical equipment on it.  In years past ComEd received special equipment for their facility about two blocks SE of the Division/Halsted intersection via rail when the tracks still were in place south of Division.  The ComEd site bordered the former Milw Road/Soo Line tracks alongside the eastern edge.

Potentially Chicago Terminal could take the flatcar to the end of the tracks just past Kingsbury and north of Division Street for ComEd to load onto a truck for the short hop to their facility.

If anyone is in the area over the next few days swing by Kingsbury and see if the drop-center flatcar is indeed spotted at the end of the track where that gondola was last year.

You can see a drop-center flatcar with a much earlier delivery for ComEd on the photo in this section of the website.

Well the UP system shows delivering the car to CTM on the 29th and receiving by the CTM today. It\'s destined to be put on tomorrow night\'s YPR77 back to Proviso, but it\'s listed as loaded. Perhaps UP simply doesn\'t know what it\'ll be?

I wonder if the CTM will deliver the car tomorrow, have it unloaded, and then bring it back to North Avenue right away?

From the quick drive by over the weekend, it looked like an old piece of equipment.  You can never really tell with that stuff though...

There\'s a post elsewhere saying it was waiting, loaded, for pick up by the UP. And in fact, I saw it at the head of a string of empties with the transformer still on board.

But there is a small story here, and I\'d like to know what happened also!

be well,

I remember seeing a drop-center flatcar with a transformer by Lee Lumber last year some time...Any thoughts as to why it would be all the way down by North Avenue yard?
