Field trip 03-19-2008
« on: March 19, 2008, 05:08:00 PM »
I had some time, so went out in the afternoon to check Chicago Terminal and related tracks.
First, the CT locomotive was parked at North Ave yard.
Next, went over to the Tribune to get pictures and check out what is being torn up. These two pictures show that 2 tracks were taken up.

While I was there, I did not notice this until I was processing the pictures. This third picture show at least 2 or 3 tank cars on the track that leads to the pier line, other side of the Ohio ramp.

Next, went to Goose Island, there were no freight cars at the lumber company. Headed east to pick up Kingsbury st. The piece of track from Kingsburgyto Division is becoming a neighbor dumping ground.
Headed North on Kingsbury, at the old zinc siding, construction is about half way on the Whole Foods store. The siding that Whole Foods and CTRR fought over is still there, the tracks are cutoff about foot past the curb.

Warning, this next section should be avoided if you get easily depressed. (Peerless pictures).

Next headed North to Lakewood to check Peerless.
The first picture is taken from Wrightwood ave. looking North.

Finally, here are pictures of what is left of Peerless. I took the pictures from inside my car.

They are doing a slow demolition of Peerless. I noticed that the rails, that were covered over in the middle of Diversey are showing through the asphalt.

Not much to report.

Thanks for the update Doug.

It\'s not a good era for the old North Side rail scene.
