Article in Crains about 10% relief in sugar prices. Maybe if it were sooner Peerless could still have made a go of it.

If link doesn\'t work go to the search area of Crains and type in \"sugar\". The article is called \"Sweet Relief\".

Now, after Peerless goes under due to foreign competition, I hear on the news today how Chinese-made candy has been \"deliberately contaminated\" with unsafe additives in an attempt to cut costs.  This is at the same time we\'re getting contaminated toothpaste and Thomas the Tank Engine painted with lead-based paint.

If retail chains get nervous enough, I wonder if they\'d ever consider buying from Peerless just to be sure the candy meets FDA requirements.  Would it even happen in time?

I just drove by Peerless today.  Looked like a truck was being loaded with candy making equipment, so I\'d guess ownership is selling off all their stuff.  Too bad.

Yep, I\'ve been in the area also and the rails are starting to get rusty from lack of traffic. I wonder how long before there is a push to pull up the rails.

It makes me too depressed to venture near the now dormant C&E Line up to Peerless.  I will avoid driving that way and remember it instead in photos and memories.

I am sure happy that this web site/forum reminded me to shoot the C&E line!  Made it just in time...
