Great catch.  Is there another link?  That one just shows one photo.

Interesting array of tracks that would have required some backup moves and careful spotting.

I am guess in the date is the early 1980s.  Railroad service was cut back to west of Lower Michigan Avenue by 1984.  Mazda moved to square headlamps on the 323 in 1980 which that Mazda 323 has in the photo.  It's the third car back in the line of cars on the left.

I wonder if the crew left the train to find the owners of those cars blocking the spur to the Tribune's loading dock and printing press at Tribune Tower?

Thanks Matt. Pics east of Michigan are rare. Are there any other rail pics from that Flickr member? Could you post a link to their collection?

Thanks,
Joe

Sorry about that.  There's one crossing the river bridge and a few suburban shots as well:

Good catch on that collection of C&NW photos.  Now I have something to browse during those LONG conference calls at work.

Oh man that's a lot of really cool shots of the F-M units in the UP.  Cool to see those three big high-nose units tugging ore jennies across that embankment.
