Thanks Tom. I see there was still a line crossing Halsted at that point. No sign of the spurs which once crossed further south (to an engine facility?).

I believe you are thinking of a C&NW engine servicing facility and roundhouse that once existed south of Chicago Avenue, but not on Goose Island.

I'm thinking of trackage extending at one time (circa 1950s or earlier) from North Branch Street over Halsted to the south of the Peanut plant marked on your 1971-era map. Did such trackage exist?

I'll have to do some digging to find a map with that track you describe.  It is not on the 1955 track diagram of Goose Island either.
