the new TV show Chicago Code, police story set in Chicago, one of the promos end with the police on the pier line (Canel & Kinize).

Glad you were able to grab the screen shot.

It is surprising that the tracks are still in place and that UP has not sought to formally abandon this line which has zero chance for another rail-served industry to build along it.

Does anyone know what the purpose is of the black tank cars that are often stored farther up this line, closer to Grand Avenue?

They store the tank cars there for the chocolate factory spur usually after the hoppers leave.
