Chicago Terminal Reopens the C&E South Line
« on: February 12, 2007, 08:10:50 PM »
Some good news to offset the bad news lately regarding the Chicago Terminal Railroad.  This evening, February 12, the railroad headed down Kingsbury Street south of the Goose Island lead, going past North Avenue to the end of tracks at Kingsbury near where it curves into Halsted.

The purpose was a test prior to possibly attracing new rail shippers on this stretch.

The SW-8 had to push its way gently through the sections of track south of North Avenue that had been paved over in recent years, shoving pieces of asphalt to the side.  Onlookers were surprised to see a train on this section.

Did anyone get photos?  I didn\'t unfortunately.

The crew came back later last night (2/12/07) and dropped off a gondola on Kingsbury St.  Grab your cameras and head on out there!

Hi,

Perhaps it is obvious but why did they leave a car behind?

My guess is that it was a test run of some kind.

Is this at the very South end near Division St?  I drove by on North Ave. Sunday and didn\'t see anything.  I guess I didn\'t look far enough down!

Yes, the gondola is at the south end of Kingsbury St. just before it turns east at Halsted.  There\'s a gas station and a Dunkin Donuts behind it.

Of course, Kingsbury picks up again south of Erie Street.

I can\'t imagine how the crew got down there unimpeded.  I drove down there around 5:30 p.m. today and there must\'ve been 5 or 6 cars parked right on the tracks at various points along the way.  I wonder if they had to get the tow trucks called out.
