Tracks near Kiddie Land
« on: February 16, 2011, 07:38:56 PM »
I recently drove by the tracks that cross First Ave just south of North ave. They ran by Kiddieland and Triton college. This was about 5 days after the big blizzard and the tracks were still covered in snow near the crossing. Does anyone know if they\'re still being used?

That\'s the CN\'s (formerly Soo Line, and before that, the old WC) Altenheim sub.  Not used much anymore, as CN has so many other lines they own.  It\'s the same line that runs along the south side of the Eisenhower, but at that point the tracks belong to the B&OCT.  Around Forest Park you can see one of the tracks is being used for storing cars.  The CSX still uses the line west up to the Ferrara Pan factory between Harlem and Circle.

The last time I took my kid to Kiddieland (summer of 2009), a fairly long CN train ran by on that line.
