Three gondolas are now parked on the southernmost portion of the Kingsbury line by the corner of Division and Halsted.

I wonder if they are going to store the gondolas on Goose Island now instead of Lakewood to avoid upsetting the neighbors.  They could also store some at the end of Kingsbury where that asphalt was uncovered.  Fascinating times.

I haven\'t seen any cars at Big Bay for a while, but I don\'t get there every day, so it\'s possible I\'ve missed some and traffic on this site would indicate they are still receiving shipments.  Still, it would seem clear the recession has affected Big Bay\'s business.  Every time I drive by, I\'m afraid I\'m going to see it all closed up.

Ouch.  This could get ugly, I\'m afraid.

General Discussion / Missing Track at South End of Kingsbury?

I noticed this about 2 weeks ago.  It may have been there much earlier, though, as I don\'t get down that way much.

General Discussion / Tracks by Wrigley Field
« on: May 26, 2009, 09:27:56 AM »
The tracks that used to show through the street near Waveland Avenue have been covered with asphalt now.  I just noticed this on Sunday and the asphalt looks fresh, so it must be a relatively new development.

Yes, and stored railcars mean that at least one more trip will occur at some point on the line!

From the Kennedy yesterday, I saw the CTR engine carrying a centerbeam car and two gondolas, including one that had a steel coil in it.  I hope it\'s enough to keep them going.  I wonder if UP is interested in spinning off their Tribune and chocolate company business to CTR.

Yesterday afternoon (Thursday) the engine was not in the yard, so that\'s a good sign.

There are centerbeam cars at Big Bay, so the bridge must still be in use for rail traffic.

General Discussion / Chicago Tribune Yard...

Re: my earlier post above, I believe I finally saw the Tribune paper delivery in progess.  It was around 4 p.m. on Friday and the UP switcher had a line of CP box cars heading out of North Avenue Yard towards downtown (unless it was backing up with empties).

What a weekend to be out of town!  Sorry I missed the action, but I\'d sign up for that dinner train or the winter tour mentioned above in a minute.

What customers did the Dunning branch serve?  Did someone go out of business?

Google Earth shows remaining trackage there.  Do they still receive any service?  I\'ve always passed by on Ridge but never gone around back to see what it looks like back there.
