Wow, that area looks a little different these days. Thanks for posting!

I posted quite a few scanned track diagrams with listings of customers over the years on the former Milwaukee Road and some C&NW lines in this Flickr album-

Thanks, Tom, I'll check it out. What I'm most interested in is the Corner of Belden and Lakewood and what the buildings there may have been for (and if they used rail service).

General Discussion / customer spreadsheet

Hi all,

Years ago, I have a vague recollection of someone posting a spreadsheet here that listed all the known rail customers (most long gone) along the rail lines that this website is devoted to. Does anyone know where I could find that sheet?

I'm particularly interested in the Lakewood Line as I've just recently moved to a place just a block or so away from the old line. Thanks!

Why did NS have that switch job? NS tracks aren't anywhere around there are they? Isn't that all UP trackage?

Wasn't there someone on here who had built a model of Big Bay and the surrounding trackage?

Well, it was a nice run, everybody. I first stumbled across the line as a student at DePaul back in 1992.

Thanks for helping me learn more about it. I even managed to get some pictures of one of the last runs to Peerless, thanks to you all.

Didn't a similar situation occur several years ago? CT ran some traffic over the line to mark their territory and then ended up agreeing to a settlement?

Did the Sun-Times printing plant (the new one, not the one in their old building) have rail service?  If not, this could represent a net gain for local rail freight in the area.  Hooray!

Several cars at Finkl along Cortland Street this weekend.  No sign of any action at Big Bay or anywhere else.

The last time I took my kid to Kiddieland (summer of 2009), a fairly long CN train ran by on that line.

Perhaps naively, I thought they really had a chance to get a customer on the Kingsbury line.  Too bad.  Twenty years from now, no one will believe there were ever trains on these streets.

Interesting.  Is Finkl possibly starting to pack up for the move?

The gondolas at the former Peerless site were still there on Friday.  The graffiti taggers are enjoying them being there.

Three gondolas are now parked on the southernmost portion of the Kingsbury line by the corner of Division and Halsted.

I wonder if they are going to store the gondolas on Goose Island now instead of Lakewood to avoid upsetting the neighbors.  They could also store some at the end of Kingsbury where that asphalt was uncovered.  Fascinating times.
