MILW Swing bridge at Kinzie
« on: August 28, 2009, 09:38:33 AM »
To All,

I have info on the Z-2 swing bridge onto Goose Is. and the Z-6 bridge at the Bloomingdale east end, but cannot find any info on the (now removed) bridge or it\'s designation; Z-??.

See MRHA Special Pub. No. 6: Tom Burke\'s \'The Milwaukee In Chicago\' book, page 36 for photo and location reference.

I used The Library of Congress HABS/HAER website for historic bridges and have their info for Z-2 and Z-6 (MILW designations) bridges.

Any help or direction appreciated.

Thanks,

Charlie

Forgot to add that I believe that the bridge was gone by the time the HABS/HAER surveys catalogued Chicago historic bridges.

The Milwaukee Road beavertail bridge just north of Kinzie was known as \"BR J-O\" or Bridge J-O with the letter O, and not a zero, at the end.

Charlie:

I double-checked on one of my old maps from the Milwaukee Road and it could actually be Bridge BR J-O where the letter O could be the number zero.  You might want to research the bridge both ways.

OK, thanks Tom.  The other MILW built bridges do have the lettr-number designations.
Z-2 and Z-6 just north of there.  I have the data from HABS/HAER for those two.
