Another Train to Peerless on 2/20/07 Planned!!!
« on: February 16, 2007, 11:35:46 AM »
Another car of corn syrup was just delivered to the Chicago Terminal Railroad by UP destined for Peerless so it looks like another run will be made up Lakewood Avenue on 2/20/07.

Gentlemen, get your cameras ready for the run up there next Tuesday.  I will not be able to drop by that day due to things, like, well work.

I will have to amend my picture to show it was \"one of the last runs\" vs. the last run :)

I am happy to hear this!!  I really wanted to catch them on Lakewood.  Now, if I can get off work...  What is the turn around time at Peerless?  Would they pick up the empty on Thursday the 22nd?

Thanks for the heads up!!

Guys:

From my experience the Chicago Terminal crews work the Peerless spur around Diversey very quickly.  They are in and out within under ten minutes.  My guess is that they would be back on Thursday, 2/22, to pick up the empty unless Peerless hasn\'t released it yet.

Hi,

What time does the Chicago Terminal usually leave?  And, how certain can we be that it will actually be running on Tuesday?

A clue as to whether the train is coming up to Peerless on a particular day is if the Lakeshore Athletic Club on Fullerton has the orange cones and warning signs setup across the tracks.  The crew normally calls ahead to let the health club know they will be passing through.

There is no particular time that the crew always goes up there, either in the CP Rail era or today.  It\'s whenever the other work gets done and how many carloads they have elsewhere.  A good place to camp out is where the tracks cross Clybourn since you can see the train starting to head north, then you can drive up Southport and meet up with it.

Hi,

I had heard on another group (Illinirail...grrrr) that it wouldn\'t be running and since I couldn\'t be sure I decided to pass on train watching and stick to my studies.  Looks like you were pulled away from it too!  I\'d love to see any pictures that people might have though.

I got back around 3:30 and they still had not been able to get the swing bridge aligned.  A little before 4:00 they finally got across.  Then, that switch in General wouldn\'t work.  At about 4:15 I called it a day.  At about 4:25 they said there was no way they would be able to make it to Peerless and back by 5:00, something about them getting \"Busted\" and cars blocking the ROW.  Is the 5:00 limit a city law, or just a No Parking time?  I have no idea if they made it to Peerless or not.  They wanted to because the car was \"a week late\".

The Chicago Terminal crew will attempt another run up to Peerless tomorrow, Thursday, February 22, to deliver a car.  They may come back as early as next Tuesday to retrieve the empty which could very well be the last train to Peerless after all.  Apparently there were just too many vehicles on the tracks at the Lakeshore Health Club for them to make a go of it yesterday by the time the train got that far north.

Again, due to work I cannot get down either day there so hopefully others will be on hand to memorialize this event with their cameras and camcorders.
