I know the topic here is Northside switching but has anyone explored the old Illinois Northern Cermak line on the South side? From what I remember, there are areas of street trackage or the track runs right along the street. From what I understand, it is still quite active. Does anyone have info on this route?

I just scored a ATSF Zebra Stripe S4 like new, on Ebay, for the amazing price of $22.72, it looks dead on stripe wise to Illinois Northern #34, so I guess I have some Modeling to do. Anyone have any recomendations on who to have do the Decals for the Illinois northern on the Hood?

A good place to look for information about the South Side industrial rail lines is at the Shortlines of Chicago Historical Society website.  The SCHS covers a lot of these lines, including the old Illinois Northern which I believe is now a shortline.

Here\'s their website...

I believe you are probably referring to the former Lumber District industrial lines around 18th St.  As of mid-2004 the lines were still in place east of Halsted St. but out of service.  The Bluebird Lounge is right at the corner of Halsted and 18th for reference.

West of Halsted is where the active track is still in service.
