Yes, there are on occasion geese on Goose Island. This family of
Canada geese received a police escort as they waddled from one side
of North Branch Avenue to the other on April 28 of 2008. The corner
of the first photo shows one of the rails that once went to
AKZO/International Salt to the right or south so technically it's
within the scope of this website. The picture quality is not the
best since I had to grab the camera quickly out of the car and take
shots before the moment was gone. In 2009 more Canada geese took up
residence on Goose Island, this time on the north end of the
island. Legend has it that Goose Island originally took its name
from the domestic geese raised there by early Irish immigrant
residents more than a century ago.
