George Street Crossing Signal
Posted by mark kolodny on 19 May 2004
Take a look at an interesting crossing signal at the intersection of George St. and Lakewood Ave. in September 1991.
Looking NW.
Lakewood Ave. immediately south of George and Lincoln.
View looks S-SW.
At the time this was actually the northern terminus of continuous track, but it proved unnecessary for trains switching Peerless, a few blocks south of here.

Another view looking south down Lakewood.
Awnings that covered old loading docks can be seen across the street.
Peerless is the large white building in the far distance on the south side of Diversey Pkwy, and by late 1991 it was the last active customer on the Lakewood Branch.
Loading docks for the area's meat-packing plants, new condos, and
isolated stretches of track.
Looking SE down Lincoln. Van is on Lakewood.
Nightclubs had taken over a few of the old meat warehouses by this time.
