Tom Burke was with the crew of the Chicago Terminal Railroad to document the historic first week of operations. Day 1 starts with the crew gathering at North Ave. Yard. From January 2, 2007.
John, the conductor, sets the switches for Ken, the engineer, as the
locomotive crawls down the track. Shortly it will back down and couple onto
the gondolas and boxcar on the right.
The train moves forward out of the North Avenue Yard and towards the Mill
Yard where it will reach home rails. At the Mill Yard are some gondolas for
Finkl Steel that will be picked up on Thursday.
