Maps
« on: January 01, 2017, 05:29:31 PM »
Hello all,

I am having a hard time understanding why maps of the C&E are so rare.  I mean we are in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the US and I would assume that there would have been a need for maps by the city of Chicago and that there would be a large number produced by the railroad as well.    I like what I see in the Milwaukee Railroader as well as in Model Railroader.   The maps in Milwaukee Railroader list companies at the locations but some of the captions name some companies that are not shown on the map.   The MR issues have generic maps or they are not complete, it cut off.

Space limited the publication of all of the maps and detailed print diagrams in the magazines and books.

Maps and track plans of the C&E can be found in the book on which I was lead author, The Milwaukee Road in Chicago, which is back in print.

An even more detailed set of maps are in the book "Competing Rails:The Milwaukee Road's Legacy in Evanston and Wilmette," including the complete C&E Line from the Evanston border into downtown Chicago.

I included maps of the Deering Line which was attached to the C&E Line in my article on the Milwaukee Road Deering Line in the First Quarter 2006 issue of The Milwaukee Railroader magazine.

The April 1975 issue of Model Railroader has extremely detailed track diagrams for the southern end of the C&E Line from a point south of Division Street to Kinzie.

Also if you search in Flickr you can find maps I uploaded of the C&E Line.

I make no money from these publications which are a labor of love.

Tom,

thank you for the quick response and the information.  I will be purchasing the Milwaukee Road in Chicago book and the other book as well.

Thanks again
