CTR on Lakewood branch YESTERDAY
« on: August 15, 2008, 01:11:33 AM »
Hello,

Today my Dad and I made our yearly trek down to Chicago to photograph trains.  After finding nothing along the Central Illinois line on the southside (although an engine was missing ?!?)we decided to check out Goose Island.  The engine wasn\'t in the yard so we decided to hunt it down.  As we drove down Clybourn my dad noticed a light down the track along Lakewood.  Sure enough, there was the CTR switcher with the crew trimming trees along the line.  So, it looks like the Lakewood dies as easily as Brett Farve\'s career.  It just keeps coming back.  I\'ll try to post some pictures soon.  Tomorrow I move even further away from Chicago to Hastings MN so it might be a few days.  Be sure to watch the line for further activity and please post pictures!

Thanks for the update.  I look forward to the photos of the crew on the Lakewood line trimming trees.  What was the reaction of nearby residents and motorists?    How far north did they go?

I imagine keeping the line officially in service and not abandoned helps Chicago Terminal assert their rights and to keep their options open.  It might also give them negotiating leverage as was done with the former Midwest Zinc site off Kingsbury.
