Spur of UP North line
« on: September 15, 2007, 06:02:32 PM »
Riding the Metra UP North yesterday, I noticed a surprising active looking spur coming off around 5000 North.  Any one know what industry this is for and if it is still in use?

I used to live around there and don\'t recall any spur over there...Where there any rail cars on the spur? Now around Bryn Mawr, there is a spur that used to feed Temple Steel and Hines Lumber...Temple no longer gets rail service and Hines lumber is gone...I am curious now...

It may be the one at Bryn Mawr you mentioned.  I did not see any cars, but it looked like it was in use by its condition (nothing on tracks, no weeds, not overly rusty)  I\'ll try to see if there are ever any cars there.  This is my new comute to work, so I\'ll have plenty of chances too see them if there are!

I believe Hines stopped getting lumber loads at Bryn Mawr in the middle 90\'s...Temple Steel stopped getting rail service shortly thereafter...
