Lots of other great non-railroad Chicago pics from the same era.  Amazing how much the city has changed.

General Discussion / Peerless run on "190 North" tv show
« on: April 01, 2013, 08:40:02 PM »
I had mentioned this a couple times before.  Back in 2000 I saw a segment on the show "190 North" on channel 7 that featured the "candy train".  It showed the run up to Peerless.  I emailed to see if I could get a copy of the show and I never got a response.  Sunday night "190 North" happens to be on tv and it was turns out to be their final show.  They were playing old clips, and to my amazement they showed a small part of the "candy train" segment. I have it in HD on my dvr.  Eventually will have to get around to posting it.  May be a while, have a 2 month old that takes up most of my time.  In the meantime I'll email again, now that I know they still have the footage.

General Discussion / Grand Ave. Yard fence
« on: March 22, 2013, 10:47:58 PM »
Caught the switch job at Tribune at 10:30 am on Thursday.  Went down to film and found that the accessible part of the yard in front of the Salvation Army has been fenced off.  Makes it much harder to take pics/film.

General Discussion / Fulton Cold Storage makeover
« on: November 07, 2012, 10:22:53 PM »
The massive Fulton Cold Storage building which used to receive refrigerated boxcars is undergoing a conversion to office space.  Area is fenced off and the wrecking ball is knocking out brick wall sections between the concrete spandrels.
Here is a rendering of completed renovation.

Today the diagonal track crossing Halsted and Division was being paved over.  Not sure if it's going to be completly done, they were paving Halsted from Division to the river.

General Discussion / Lakewood branch truncated
« on: November 29, 2011, 08:24:02 PM »
There is a condo built right on the ROW just north of Webster.  I would have thought they would have kept that as an alley, but that land must be pretty valuable.  Glad I got some pics of those gondolas being stored there last year.

General Discussion / Visible track crossing Halsted
« on: November 15, 2011, 10:06:35 PM »
Today, while leaving my elevator maintenance stop at Storage Mart (1015 N. Halsted) I noticed that the road has been graded and the old brick street is visible along with a track crossing Halsted at Hooker street.  I believe this was mentioned recently.  I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

General Discussion / More Chicago Flickr pics

Mike's newly found pics of Wallace Press made me search for more and I found a nice collection of Chicago stuff on flickr.  Haven't found actual train pics but the first page has lots of Goose Island and Kingsbury images that show trackage.  Also check out the great '68 pic of the Hancock under construction.
