Good catch with that Chicago Reader article from 31 years ago.  Chicago seems like a less interesting city year by year with the loss of its manufacturing base on the North Side.  The other downside to the changes is the just horrible congestion on area streets in the former industrial corridors that are now home to residential and retail development.
