Title: Big Bay Lumber

I\'m working on a model of Big Bay lumber, and I\'ve got it about 20% done, but
I need more information to keep working. Basically, when I took my photos years ago, I stood in Cherry St. on top of the switch that actually leads inside Big Bay\'s gated yard and pointed the camera down the track. I\'ve searched online for hours and found every photo I can, but what I DON\'T have are any good pictures of the inside of this gated area. Is there any chance someone could get down there with a camera and get several good pictures of what the place looks like inside the gate where the spur enters the yard? I really want to see the southeast wall of the main building--doors, docks, windows, whatever.

Being all the way out here in New Mexico, I\'m really limited in what I can do for my own research, and if I wasn\'t smart enough to get good pictures on my last trip (back in 2000), I don\'t have it!

So, any help you guys can provide is really appreciated!

I never went inside the Big Bay Lumber yard to take pictures but I can tell you that their spur runs almost the entire length of their property, from where it enters off Kingsbury, passing through one building, and then coming out the other side near the south gate where it ends. It\'s covered with pallets in some spots.

You might be able to get a good birds-eye visual from Google Earth or the City of Chicago\'s mapping feature which is even more accurate I am told. I use Google Earth when modeling these former lines to get relative proportions right of the buildings and streets as well as for roof details.

As I mentioned in another post, I\'ve been taking pictures of Goose Island trains and tracks since the mid-1980s and I never saw Big Bay get a delivery on their spur. Always done from the street, I assumed to save space inside their lumber yard.

First looks directly into what I was told is Big Bay, east side of Cherry Street directly south of that gated area. I\'ll see what else I have. Matt and Dan might have some as well.

The buildings across the street from Big Bay are part of the old Burhop complex. They were shippers of charcoal among other things, not sure if it was inbound or outbound loads. The spur\'s still there though cut off from the main track after the 1991 street rebuilding project on Cherry Street south of Division Street.
