Hey Tom, I saw those. I was thinking the actual trackage on the pier. I always thought it was two tracks down the southside. I never knew it actually went down the center as well!!

The Chicago Tribune ran a feature today (Jan 8 2012) on Navy Pier. There's a photo of tank cars lined up alongside the ships in this view from 1962-

An interior view from 1959 shows the C&NW track going down the middle. The gallery for the streetcars is in the process of being removed on the upper level.
