Title: Recession update?
Post by: cnwnorthline on February 26, 2009, 11:10:04 AM
Hi,

Does anybody know if Finkel is still planning and expanding with the recession?  Perhaps they will just stay where they are at.

I was wondering that myself. I believe they were shutting down this April if they stuck to their plan. Anybody know if it looks like the new plant is seeing a lot of activity for opening.

If someone lives close to the new facility they might give us an update if there seems to be activity prepping for the opening.

Still looks pretty active on Cortland, although I don\'t see the number of employees working on the weekends like I use to but that may be as you said the economy effects.

The Chicago Terminal switcher has been parked with a long cut of gondolas on the track that connects with the Bloomingdale lead to the bridge over the river right near Sipi Metals. The switcher and gondolas have been parked there and haven\'t moved for at least two days. The switcher has two gondolas on the front end and maybe 6 or so on the back end. There is also a gondola parked in the Sipi Metals spur behind the locked fence. I wonder if this has to do with the closure of the Finkl plant and they are bringing all the gondolas in to clear the plant out. Anybody have any ideas?

Perhaps the SW-800 switcher had mechanical problems and is stuck there for the time being, or ran out of fuel.
