General Discussion / Target develops Wilson Yard
« on: October 17, 2008, 06:19:16 PM »
The bridge around Truman College has been torn out now, the only part left is a short segment between Montrose and the south end of the new Truman parking area.  Kind of sad to see all that infrastructure go, first the Wilson yard area and now this connector finally gone.  But, even CTA had stopped using it to store MOW equipment on and the bridge was starting to grow trees.

General Discussion / Weber spur

As I said, the line ran from Mayfair Junction on the northwest side of Chicago to a connection with the CNW North Line (the commuter route through the North Shore) near where the Sanitary and Ship Canal crosses Green Bay Road in Evanston.  It was cut back to around Touhy, still running from Mayfair, and became the spur.  It is out of service now.  Please go to yahoo Groups and look for the CNW Weber Skokie group to find out enough info to keep you busy for a long time.  I am a member, we are not a bad bunch, and we got tons of pics and other data.  Jack

The line ran from Mayfair to Evanston to connect with the North Line at a point very near where the canal crosses Green Bay Road.  it served industry in northern and western Evanston, had a yard at Oakton St. and even had some commuter trains on it for a long time.  you can still see part of it from Mayfair to just south of Touhy behind Lincoln Town Mall.  Service ran to just north of Pratt once in a while until a couple of years ago, but north of there the oline has been gone for many years.

If you guys are on Yahoo groups there is a group dedicated to these lines.  It is called CNW_Weber_Sksub.  Lots of information and pics there, although it has not been real active lately

General Discussion / Chicago & Pacific/MILW/CP Rail Bloomingdale Line
« on: February 17, 2004, 07:48:23 PM »
Hi:  I believe that CP uses UP tracks to get at the area.  I saw on a CNW discussion group the other day that a Soo switcher was seen on UP West Line tracks a week or so ago, and it would only be there if they were going to their own tracks near Goose Island or something farther north, i think.  I also think that just about all fo the Bloomingdale line is abandoned, other discussion groups on rapid transit have noted construction of buildings on the right of way by developers up and down the line.
