I don't know if this photo has been posted previously, but here's a shot at Argyle from 1908.  I don't know if the C&E still would have served the track on the far left still or not.  There's no overhead wire.

General Discussion / Silvestri outlet location?
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:04:46 PM »
Greetings all,

Just had a flashback to my youth when I spent an excruciatingly long afternoon at the Silvestri Outlet store.  Silvestri used to make Christmas ornaments and lights, or at least had them imported from overseas.  Anyway, one day--I'm guessing it was 1984-1986, in the middle of a blazing hot summer day, I was with my mom at this store on the north side.  If memory serves me correctly, there was a freight spur connected to the building or a nearby building.  I'm thinking it was part of the CNW north line around Diversey, but don't know for sure.  Anyone have any info?

Thanks,

Mike Murray

Ran across these on Mike Raia's Flickr page today:

A PCC crossing the double-tracked MILW at Halsted and Divison (Holy crap!  Imagine what putting that junction in the street must've been like...):

General Discussion / C&NW Spur Remnant
« on: May 08, 2011, 12:07:41 AM »
I was at the movie theater at 2600 N. Western, and remembered seeing a spur coming off of the C&NW line back in the days of my youth when the theater wasn\'t there and the land was occupied by a Zayre store. After the movie, I grabbed my camera, and, sure enough, the ramp coming off of the elevated ROW is still there, and there is rail in the ground as well. Photos here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/36106399@N04/sets/72157626546406643/

Can anyone tell me:
1. If this spur had a specific name or the name of the industry it served.
2. If the industry I photographed (it\'s in the set of pictures) was also served.
3. A rough estimate of when it was last used.

Thanks,

Mike Murray

General Discussion / Is CTRR all done?
« on: May 03, 2011, 11:43:53 AM »
Someone on the Illinirail yahoo group posted that the CTRR tracks leading away from the UP/Metra to the river bridge look like they have been ripped out.  Can anyone confirm?

General Discussion / Wabansia Construction
« on: April 11, 2011, 11:20:12 AM »
The former C&NW spur on Wabansia is coming out north of Elston Ave.  The street is being repaved with concrete, and the rails and ties have been pulled out.

I\'ve posted some pictures from my Flickr site:
