General Discussion / Activity on Lakewood line
« on: May 06, 2009, 02:44:40 PM »
Had to pick up pet supplies, so went to the Petco on Clybourn. On the Lakewood branch, between Belden and Webster, were 4 empty gondolas.
(date:5/6/2009 at noon). Did a check and the CT switcher was still in the North Ave yards, however, the ILSX service truck was next to the switcher. A quick check, no cars at Big Bay Lumber.

Did get pictures of the gondolas, go to:

General Discussion / Field trip 03-19-2008
« on: March 19, 2008, 05:08:00 PM »
I had some time, so went out in the afternoon to check Chicago Terminal and related tracks.
First, the CT locomotive was parked at North Ave yard.
Next, went over to the Tribune to get pictures and check out what is being torn up. These two pictures show that 2 tracks were taken up.

While I was there, I did not notice this until I was processing the pictures. This third picture show at least 2 or 3 tank cars on the track that leads to the pier line, other side of the Ohio ramp.

Next, went to Goose Island, there were no freight cars at the lumber company. Headed east to pick up Kingsbury st. The piece of track from Kingsburgyto Division is becoming a neighbor dumping ground.
Headed North on Kingsbury, at the old zinc siding, construction is about half way on the Whole Foods store. The siding that Whole Foods and CTRR fought over is still there, the tracks are cutoff about foot past the curb.

Warning, this next section should be avoided if you get easily depressed. (Peerless pictures).

Next headed North to Lakewood to check Peerless.
The first picture is taken from Wrightwood ave. looking North.

Finally, here are pictures of what is left of Peerless. I took the pictures from inside my car.

They are doing a slow demolition of Peerless. I noticed that the rails, that were covered over in the middle of Diversey are showing through the asphalt.

Not much to report.

General Discussion / Chicago Terminal
« on: December 20, 2007, 03:41:37 PM »
This week, the Chicago terminal will start switching the Bensenville industrial lead. The Bensenville Industrial lead is located about mile south of Elk Grove Village, just west of York Rd. Most of the track is south of Thorndale with a spur that crosses Thorndale just east of Rt 83 to serve the busiest rail customer in that industrial operation. This industrial track has a 90 degree crossing (diamond)in the middle.
Chicago Terminal takes over from CPrail.

General Discussion / Peerless
« on: December 20, 2007, 03:36:17 PM »
Went by Peerless today, the place is tape off with yellow tape. On the wall is spray painted, no parking as 12/17/2007. Looks like the building is about to be torn down.

The building across the street is gone. Various crane were on the lot.
