I posted quite a few scanned track diagrams with listings of customers over the years on the former Milwaukee Road and some C&NW lines in this Flickr album-

Thanks, Tom, I'll check it out. What I'm most interested in is the Corner of Belden and Lakewood and what the buildings there may have been for (and if they used rail service).

General Discussion / customer spreadsheet
« Last post by raisin on May 27, 2023, 11:50:59 PM »
Hi all,

Years ago, I have a vague recollection of someone posting a spreadsheet here that listed all the known rail customers (most long gone) along the rail lines that this website is devoted to. Does anyone know where I could find that sheet?

I'm particularly interested in the Lakewood Line as I've just recently moved to a place just a block or so away from the old line. Thanks!

Very cool. I have never seen pictures of it before.

Wow...that is really good!

Now you will have to model the Daily Herald's printing press in Schaumburg as the Tribune parent company acquired it and will move production there.

General Discussion / Consumers Company Yard pics?

Does anyone know of any photos of the RR working the Consumers Company Yard/North Side Lumber and Timber industries at Lincoln/Grace/Ravenswood?

It's found on page 108 of the Sanborn map:

It was a C&NW freight station according to Tom Burke .. his 1991 pics:

Poking around through there lately (it's a very fun bike path) this looks like it would have been a really interesting and varied freight rail corridor. Lots of ghostly bits here and there to be spotted. Also -- the "Skokie Valley" ROW in general, what a waste it is, north of Dempster. South of there, with a paved path now and my electric bike it's like a superhighway, but that's partly because it's almost deserted. It's a straight diagonal path to the Chicago CBD, you'd think a high/ish speed rail line, maybe with a super cool paint scheme, could easily thrive on relief from the 90/94 slog..  sigh

Thanks for sharing.
Is that a former station with the Skokie signage?
