About two hours ago, a portion of the south wall of the Morton Salt factory on Goose Island collapsed! Thankfully there were no injuries, but a lot of salt spilled onto the car dealer next door. Attached is the Breaking News report by ABC Chicago, with several good aerial views:

While the Tribune article about this incident incorrectly places Morton Salt on Goose Island. They did that in the recent past, putting a nightclub on Kingsbury on Goose Island. Someone needs to show their reporters how to read a map.

Hopefully this accident does not lead Morton Salt to close and dismantle this facility, eliminating yet another Chicago rail freight customer.

They re-built it last time, and it looks like they will re-build it again (thank goodness!).
