There still seems to be some left. When the weather is better I'm gonna take a bike ride down to see. Thanks for the pics.

The building west of Pier 1 imports on Ashland seems to have a curve in the back as if for railroad cars. I noticed this on Google maps.

General Discussion / Tracks near Kiddie Land
« on: February 16, 2011, 07:38:56 PM »
I recently drove by the tracks that cross First Ave just south of North ave. They ran by Kiddieland and Triton college. This was about 5 days after the big blizzard and the tracks were still covered in snow near the crossing. Does anyone know if they\'re still being used?

I did some work on the house of mrs. Finkle herself. Last she told me they were still going to own the land and maybe have it developed with more condos. This was a little over a year ago.

General Discussion / Introduce Yourself!
« on: March 15, 2010, 07:01:11 PM »
Hi, Im Chris. I was introduced to this site through Forgotten Chicago. I\'ve had a fascination with trains since I was a kid. I plan on modeling a train set one of these days, time permitting. I looked into the Lakewood branch after having an SIUC fuction at Wellington Tavern. I noticed a set of railroad tracks in the middle of the street in a residential area. I know about Chicago\'s manufacturing past and was fascinated. My great grandfather worked for the railroads in the late 1800s to the early 1900s. He also lived in West Town near Armitage and Milwaukee. I really enjoy this site. Very interesting info.

General Discussion / Tracks near the Brickyard

TBurke:
Can you provide a link so I can purchase a copy of the book? I did a google search seen different copies.
It must have been the very early 1980s when I last seen it cross Diversey. I did see a locomotive cross Grand or at least come up very close to it. This was on a Saturday afternoon when I was shopping with my family. It must have been mid to late 1980s. I don\'t remeber exactly. It was weird to see track in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Maybe that\'s why it stuck with me so much. Thanks for the info.

General Discussion / Tracks near the Brickyard

Hi, new to this site. I really enjoy all the pics and info. I remeber as a kid seeing a locomotive passing Diversey near the brickyard by Narragasset. The tracks at one time ran past Addison. I seen and old map with tracks running through Irving. The tracks are long gone but I can still see the remnants. Does anybody have any info or pics about these tracks or trains? Ive heard they were for the infamous Dunning assylum. They seemed more industrial based from what I remember as a kid.
