General Discussion / Car on Sipi Metals spur!

There is an empty gondola car parked on the Sipi Metals spur, well inside of their fence.  I noticed it Thursday morning from the Metra and it was still there today (Friday).  If anyone can snap a picture it should be there at least all weekend.  

This is the first time I have seen a car there, and from what I read here,it may have been thought they were no longer using rail at all for the plant.  It\'s nice to see something happening there since Peerless is gone and Finkl is next...

Riding the Metra UP North yesterday, I noticed a surprising active looking spur coming off around 5000 North.  Any one know what industry this is for and if it is still in use?

General Discussion / Finkl Steel - Sunday Switching?

On Saturday their were 3 gondola cars parked where the lakewood branch starts at Kinsbury.  I\'ve never seen cars parked there before so it caught my eye when I drove by and saw them from Clybourn.  I drove around and noticed that there were no cars parked in the Finkl Steel spur that usually has a few gondolas.  I figured they must have put them in the other area for some reason.  

Now today (Sunday) I passed by again around 6pm and the three cars on the Lakewood branch are still there, but there are also three more parked on the Finkl spur!  Not sure what all this means, but I was surprised that any cars get delivered or moved on Sunday.  Does Finkl move cars around with an intraplant engine or tractor?  Also, still curious about the cars parked on the Lakewood branch..

Frequently Asked Questions / Are there five customers left, not four?

Hi Everyone,
I was just looking at the item on the site titled \"The Decline of Railroad Customers Chart\".  It shows that as of the year 2000 there were only four customers left.  I think I can count five as of today: Sipi Metals, General Iron, Finkle Steel, Peerless, and Big Bay Lumber.  Am I missing something?  Is Sipi Metals actually severed by the UP (ex CNW)?
