General Discussion / Re: The Lyons Belt - A Little OT
« on: January 30, 2018, 04:35:41 PM »
I've been on the hunt for pictures of the Lyons Belt in operation, but so far have only seen a couple of pictures.

Here is my album of what was left back in 2010:

Rumor has it that many years ago, before 1st Ave cut along the Des Plaines north of Ogden, that the line kept going north and connected to the CB&Q.

It's really a shame that with Reynolds and the Chemical plant on the east side of 1st Ave being torn down and recently redeveloped, none of those buildings are served by rail.  It's all trucks.

One of my former students likes to shoot photos from his drone.  Here he's captured tank cars being stored just east of the river.

Things look a little bit different today.  Interesting to see that the IC was still using rails out at the extreme eastern end.

Does this mean we can expect some sort of move over the tracks?

If you're looking for an interesting little industrial railroad that had street running, I found this in Germany:

Thanks Doug.  I'm excited to see those spurs back in the day.  I found rails on the ground at this location behind the movie theater on the west side of Western a few years ago:

Can anyone ID the location of this photo?  I'm thinking the Kennedy, but could be wrong.

I'd also add:

9:23-9:29 is the spur that went down the east side of the embankment and crossed Ashland.

9:38 it crosses the former Strawberry line.

Thanks for the link!

General Discussion / Tempel Steel Spur/Rose Hill Yard Remnants
« on: February 16, 2016, 11:09:31 AM »
I was at a Transient Artisan Ales/Aquanaut beer release over the weekend, and shot some quick pictures on my phone of the Tempel Steel spur and Rose Hill Yard remnants on the north side.  It was the best of both worlds: Beer drinking and railfanning!
