General Discussion / A little south/OT - Central Illinois Railway
« on: August 06, 2010, 12:40:44 PM »
Central Illinois News
Today, 8/6/2010 is the last day for the Central Illinois Rwy operation along Cermack and Blue Island Ave.
On Monday, the Central Illinois will be running both units together over all tracks (all spurs). This is the transition day. The CIRY will be giving a tour to the BNSF crews. Hence, up and down every spur, this will start at 7:00am Monday (8/9).
The CIRY was usually done by 11:00, however, on Monday, they may be out all day. On Tuesday, the BNSF officially takes over all switching operations.

Did a little research, here are some links about the subject:

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=430&f=2585&t=5713387

The problem is that the finkl site is a EPA headache and does dupaul want to pay the cleanup costs.

Use these terms in google tosee the forums that discuss this further: DePaul new stadium site finkl

General Discussion / FYI - Bill Denton\'s Kingsbury Website
« on: February 10, 2010, 12:54:38 PM »
Good pictures, just a couple of items: 1. the box cars look more like reefers. 2. the silos are for coal, that company was a big coal dealer. 3. There was a siding at the ballpark, located about where the players park their cars today.
The field received supplies (mainly beer) by railroad into the late 1960\'s. In 1964, a number of us would sneak out of high school an go to the cubs games. Sometimes there would be a box car or reefer on the siding. You could be right about the loco, definitely a diesel, your guess about a high nose GP9 would fit. I used PSP and, it still was hard to make out the motive power. Nice pictures of the area.
