New Site Updates / Forum Changes
« on: November 14, 2007, 10:21:09 AM »
I\'ve made a couple of changes in an attempt to reduce the spam that we get.  This spam is a result of automated software crawling the web for forums, signing itself as a member, and posting.

I\'ve added:

1. Logic to detect this software was added and redirect it.
2. All members have to be approved after they sign up.
3. The forum cannot be viewed without logging on.

Hopefully that takes care of it. ;)

New Site Updates / site down this week (march 5-9 2007)
« on: March 06, 2007, 08:59:43 AM »
I\'m transferring chicagoswitching to a newer, faster server.  The site may be down this week for a few hours while the transfer takes place.

I\'ll lock the forum on the old server so no messages get lost in the transfer process.

Thanks!

« on: February 04, 2007, 03:58:09 PM »
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3487019570904744793&hl=en

I received this video from John Mika\'s family.  His wife told me that he got it direct from Peerless.

Sorry - the quality isn\'t great.

I added this photo back to the about us section:

It was originally posted to the site back in version 3 days, and I left it out when I released version 4.

New Site Updates / The Map Interface
« on: December 09, 2006, 12:27:56 PM »
How many of you use the map interface at http://chicagoswitching.com/chicagoswitching/v4/articles/mapdisplay.asp ?

Do you frequently use it to discover photos, or did you just use it once?  Is the download size (1.4MB) too big?  Are the aerial photos helpful?

Thanks.  A Navy Pier and Deering Line map are in the works...

New Site Updates / What\'s Your Screen Resolution?
« on: January 28, 2005, 04:12:00 PM »
I\'m thinking about creating a map viewing application for this site and I would like to know what screen size you\'re using.  Usually, design on the web is targeted to 800x600, but with time this is changing to 1024x768.  Drop me a line or respond to this thread.  Thanks!

Frequently Asked Questions / When can I see trains on Lakewood Ave?
« on: December 02, 2003, 02:06:53 PM »
\"My suggestion is to hang out in the area on Tuesday or
Thursday to wait for the train.  It normally runs up
to Peerless from the Finkl Steel area between 11AM and
2PM.  You may want to wait at the point where the
track forks off near the northern end of Kingsbury so
you will know when it\'s coming.  The Peerless job is
handled at the same time as the Finkl Steel job, and
the train exits a gate across Kingsbury to head north.\"
