If you guys are at a Borders or Barnes and Noble, check out this book.

Nice view of Wolf Point with lots of freight cars on C&E and CNW lines and the C&E bridge still in use.  Also, nice shot of lakefront IC yard where Prudential plaza and AON building currently stand.

Guys,
Someone posted this link to the Yahoo group MFCL (modern freight car list).

http://www.pjv101.net/film_bw/fldrbw08.htm

This is an Austrailian historian and he has tons of railroad pics from a 1979 trip to the U.S.  Lots of nice Chicago shots. Some cool shots from Sears Tower of Grand Ave. and State St. yards.  The Tribune printing plant looks to be under construction.  Lots of tankers in Grand Ave. yard for Blommer and Newsprint cars in State St. yard for Sun Times.
Unfortunately no Kingsbury or Goose Island. Supposedly he still has many more to scan.  Be prepared to spend several hours checking these out.  The Chicago pics start film 1427

Modeling / Model Railroader to Feature Kingsbury Line Again
« on: November 07, 2010, 03:47:06 PM »
The Model Railroader article in question is in the new December issue.  It has a short article on an industrial switching layout based on the Milw/CTR line.  Did not get a chance to read it, was in the rush for work.  The cover feature is on Rod Stewart's layout.

General Discussion / Blommer upper level switching
« on: September 27, 2010, 06:06:42 PM »
Thanks Tom.  Years ago, I too saw a loco with hoppers near Ogilve.  Never got to see the whole movement though.  Figured it came from North Ave. because of it\'s location.

Do the cars for Blommer\'s upper level normally come from North Avenue Yard?  For 3 years I have lived along the the UP West line just east of Ogden and have never seen a freight car.  The other day a loco was pulling two hoppers west from Blommer.  I did see some mow equipment on the UP Northwest line so maybe that had something to do with it.

Sweet pics.  Thanks for the links.  I\'ve seen his pics before, but these ones have been added recently.  Those Goose pics have to be from late eighties.  Wish I would have photgraphed that area in the early \'90s while attending UIC.  The CNW set has some good shots of Morton Salt and Temple Steel.

I travel down this street every day going to work.  Looks like on the far right of pic is at Union where Kinzie slopes upward to meet Des Plaines.
On a related note, I recently got Schwarzenegger\'s \"Red Heat\" on blu-ray.  This is the area at the end of the film where the bus is hit by a CNW locomotive.  There are some ex Rock boxcars, CNW gondola, and FGE insulated boxcar visible also.

If you change the first picture size to the largest available (original), you can see two boxcars (one looks to be a CN newsprint car) further down Illinois St.  Tom, you mention the Tribune Freedom Plant.  The elevator company I work for has the maintenence contract there, so I\'ve been able to witness lots of switching movements.  Never had a camera handy though.
