I\'m still amazed in this \"recession\" that CTM has not gone under (yet...)  If there would be a time for the last of the Milw Rd street running to cease it would be in 2009...sad to say....

the timestamps on my photos say around the 1 o\'clock hour...I drove down there around noon or so and there was no crew on the switcher and it was shut down in fact in the holding spot at General Iron Industries...I was going to leave but I decided to grab lunch and not even five minutes after finishing up eating I hear the single chime horn blaring away....

pretty lucky....

for all that care...I headed out today to see if teh CTM was going to move the generator that has been sitting over at North Ave Yard for the past couple days...no such luck on that front as it is hooked up to the cut of cars for tonites YPR77....

BUT

they did in fact move more gons onto the Lakewood Branch for stoarge...I\'ll post pics and more details shortly...in fact the crew came and talked with me and asked me to post and tell y\'all that the cars are indeed for storage and nothing more....

OK....wait a minute....

There is the Weber Line that goes towards Evanston....those tracks are still in place...they are the eastern most of the two sets of tracks that go through the north end of Sauganash...

The other line that goes and connects with teh \"New Line\" at Valley is the Valley Sub (?) these tracks have been ripped up at least for the past two years.....these are the bridges that are being torn up....the are actually making the ol\' CNW into a dedicated bike path....my drummer lives a block away....kinda sad to see the original bridges go.....

The tank farm that you referred to on the Weber Line could still be served if need be.....in fact...all the grade crossings are still active on this section of track....

General Discussion / Ops Question
« on: July 12, 2007, 11:08:34 AM »
The only place that I think you can be referring to is the mall/Tresure Island Grocery Stroe parking lot just north of where the line crosses Clybourn Ave....the mall runs from Clybourn Ave to Webster Ave......at the north end (Webster Ave.) there is a chain that the crew would come and untach from its post to continue their northward trek.....nothign really big just a small chain....

There is indeed one runaround track....it is just north of the Lakeshore Athletic Club in the middle of yuppie-ville....between Altgeld and Wrightwood streets.....its in the middle of some condominuim/housing parking lot.....They used it every time they brought an empty down from Peerless...at least every time that I saw them....

An almost empty car at Big Bay.....they delivered an empty to Finkl....I think....I saw them go across the river with a gon on each end.....so I dont really know what they did....all I know is that I happened to bike up over to Cortland St. just in time to see hem run light power back to North Ave. Yard.....

Im starting to worry that they are going down the toliet....

General Discussion / PRNOA
« on: June 28, 2007, 01:03:44 PM »
The PRNOA runs with engines on both ends.....2 in front...2 in back...they use the Seeger/Norma connection at Deval.....

As far as industry on the Harvard Sub.....the place in Arlington Heights and Cary is switched by a job based out of Elk Grove.....there is a switcher that comes out of Janesville too that does some stuff around Crystal Lake and northern points......Im not too sure what the UP switch engine based in Crystal Lake does.....

General Discussion / Looking for logical reasons...
« on: May 22, 2007, 10:21:11 PM »
Northbound trains would make sense as many southbounds get a crew change at B-Ville......the alignment would be interesting at mayfair......they might as well build a connector at Grayland Jct. instead.....although that would be a whole differnt project.....

The railroad that would benefit the most from this is the WSOR.  Their crazy back-up move at Cragin and then on to A-5 (Im still not too clear what the heck they do....) is pretty time consuming.....
